Upon Wanindu Hasaranga’s resignation, Sri Lanka revealed a 16-man team for their forthcoming three-match Twenty20 series against India, along with a new skipper. Six white-ball matches between India and Sri Lanka will begin on July 27 with three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) in Pallekele.
In preparation for the three-match Twenty20 series that is scheduled to start in Pallekele on Saturday, July 27, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has announced a 16-man roster to face the revamped Indian team. SLC confirmed that Charith Asalanka, the former deputy captain Wanindu Hasaranga’s in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in the Caribbean and the USA, will lead the team sanctioned by Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Harin Fernando. After Sri Lanka’s early elimination from the competition, Hasaranga resigned from his position.
Asalanka was predicted to replace Hasaranga as the T20 captain because to his experience and growth as a player in the format. Most recently, Asalanka guided Jaffna Kings to their fourth Lanka Premier League (LPL) championship. The group represented the impact of the LPL.
Angelo Mathews, a senior all-rounder, was left off the roster, which could mean that the island nation will be switching to the T20 format in preparation for their home T20 World Cup in 2026. There were no other significant changes to the team. Pacer Dilshan Madushanka is still recovering from his injury, therefore he stayed off the field.
