Bring back the Twitter trends of Ishan Kishan, who makes a century in the Duleep Trophy during his comeback.
Today at Anantapur, the Duleep Trophy’s second round of matches got began, pitting India A against India D and India B against India C. Ishan Kishan returned for India C and put on a spectacular performance, smashing a century, after missing out on the first round due to injury.
In his red-ball format comeback to domestic cricket, Ishan Kishan has amassed a century. The left-hander, who was playing for India C, made an impressive 111 runs off just 126 balls while hitting 14 fours and three sixes. Curiously, he was a member of India D prior to the opening round but was unable to play because of an ailment. The BCCI news release announcing the selectors’ second-round squads contained no reference of Kishan.
To the amazement of all, Ishan showed up for India C and batted at number four. After the team had lost two wickets in rapid succession at 97, he walked out to bat and he and Baba Indrajith forged a third wicket partnership of 189 runs. This is his seventh century in first-class cricket and this performance certainly holds him in good stead, especially after what happened earlier this year during the home series against England.
He was in Baroda training with Hardik Pandya ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL), not making himself available to play for Jharkhand in the Ranji Trophy. The cricketer lost a central contract because, for reasons that are unclear, he refrained from playing red-ball cricket despite explicit directives from the BCCI. Though he was the first-choice keeper at one point, he is not currently included in India squads in any competition.
India then called up KS Bharat for the England series, and Dhruv Jurel made his Test debut as a result. The latter put up a strong display against England, hitting 190 runs in four innings and recording a half-century. As a result, he has been included in India’s squad for the forthcoming Test series against Bangladesh.
Kishan’s successful return can challenge Jurel for his place in the Indian team but the aggressive batter from Jharkhand will have to be consistent to be considered again for the national team. But his fans are certainly happy for him after his recent century as ‘Bring back Ishan Kishan’ started trending on Twitter (X) demanding his return to the Indian team.
