Zimbabwe is the only Test match in which Ireland names a squad.
The Zimbabwean team for the Belfast Test has also been revealed. The team, which includes veterans like Sean Williams and Tendai Chatara, will be captained by Craig Ervine.
Hoey’s addition is expected to bolster Ireland’s spin-bowling attack, which also features left-arm off-spinner Matthew Humphreys and off-spinner Andy McBrine.
Theo van Woerkom, George Dockrell, and Matthew Foster, a medium pacer, are not included in the squad.
On his Test debut against Sri Lanka in Galle last year, Humphreys battled to avoid the firing line and was caught for 67 runs in 10 overs. It was a baptism of fire for him.
The 21-year-old was chosen, nevertheless, based on his recent performance, which included 15 wickets at an average of 12.60 in two first-class matches for Ireland’s developing team versus West Indies Academy.
“Humphreys made his Test debut in Sri Lanka and found the going difficult against good players of spin out in subcontinent,”
“He’ll own that he experienced a spell of poor form and possibly a loss of confidence, but he’s fought really hard to regain his position in the lineup, and his performances for Ireland Wolves have been just what we needed.
“He demonstrated it in the West Indies last year for Emerging Ireland, then in Nepal, and he has since reinforced it in the team’s most recent series against West Indies Academy, where he claimed ten wickets.” However, what has truly impressed me about him over the past several months is his consistency, and he definitely deserves to be called up.”
On July 25, the Civil Service Cricket Club in Stormont, Belfast, will host the start of the Test match.
