Ishan Kishan last played for India against Australia in November 2023, against Australia in a T20I match.
Due to members of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) getting stranded in Barbados, the BCCI was obliged to make three changes to the Indian team for the Twenty20 International Series against Zimbabwe. Yashasvi, Shivam Dube, and Sanju Samson, among others, who were playing for the Indian squad in the T20 World Cup 2024, were unable to leave the island nation sooner due to a hurricane danger that prompted the administration to cancel all flights. For the first two games, the selectors decided to substitute Jitesh Singh, Sai Sudharsan, and Harshit Rana.
Jitesh has been considered for a few years now, but Harshit and Sudharsan were awarded for their outstanding Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 campaign. But their inclusion also raised serious concerns about certain other Team India stars who were left out. Ishan Kishan, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Varun Chakravarthy, Mayank Yadav, Umran Malik, Yash Dayal, and others were among those at the top of the list.
The most peculiar example is still probably that of Ishan Kishan. Before asking the BCCI for a sabbatical during the South Africa tour, he was an all-around player for the Indian squad. Between that series and the T20 World Cup 2024 squad selection, which inspired the selectors, a lot happened.
Ishan chose to practice with Hardik Pandya for the IPL 2024 campaign despite being reportedly requested to play in the Ranji Trophy for Jharkhand and a few other local events if he wanted to be considered for selection.
Despite Sanju Samson’s absence from the opening two games, the Mumbai Indians star’s decision didn’t appear to sit well with the BCCI executives and the selectors who didn’t choose him for the Zimbabwe series. Ishan is now not even the fourth choice option in the shortest format, according to the current ranking. He appears to be trailing behind Rishabh Pant, Sanju Samson, Dhruv Jurel, and Jitesh Sharma in the race.
Shubman Gill (captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Abhishek Sharma, Rinku Singh, Sanju Samson (WK), Dhruv Jurel (WK), Nitish Reddy, Riyan Parag, Washington Sundar, Ravi Bishnoi, Avesh Khan, Khaleel Ahmed, Mukesh Kumar, and Tushar Deshpande are the Indian team for the Twenty20 International match against Zimbabwe.
